Cambridge Tour Guides

A definite yes Do not visit Cambridge without spending 3 hours with a guide - the things we learned and our experiences were unreal. Mary Forster-Lewis was our guide - has never seen or meet a person with so much passion. Mary took us around Cambridge and which we could have spend more time. The kids enjoyed the way she presented history. A day we will never forget! Thx Mary!!

Anglesey Abbey Visitor Centre

Lode, Cambridge CB25 9EY, UK

Anglesey Abbey is a National Trust site. Please see my separate review for the whole site. Google insists on separately listing the Visitor Centre. Hence this review. The Visitor Centre is very modern with a large cafe / restaurant which does everything from coffee & a cake via afternoon tea to full meals. Inevitably, there's a large shop and a garden centre but all facilities are there and modern, with disabled access well catered for. Solar panels have been installed on the modern roof, which is always good to see. Well worth pausing on your way in and out of the rest of the large Anglesey Abbey site.

Fascinating house to visit and gardens are amazing throughout year. Christmas light show....you have to book!......is great. Live period cooking at weekends in kitchen....biscuits and bread are gorgeous. 12 and 3pm...Very entertaining clock chimes and plays....don't miss it! Good visitor centre and restaurant....friendly and Knowledgeable volunteer guides on hand.....go see!!

Anglesey Abbey

Quy Rd, Lode, Cambridge CB25 9EJ, UK – 01223 810080

This review is for the whole National Trust site and the house. This is a very well managed house, mill and extensive gardens which go out into rough areas, grass and woodland. It's great for a hot day because you can always tuck away out of the sun, if you want to. The house is surprisingly modern inside and was the residence of a single man, from memory, as it's a while since I've been round. Worth having a look, especially if you're already a member. The Mill is really interesting and the displays well done. The Visitor Centre is very modern with a large cafe / restaurant which does everything from coffee & a cake via afternoon tea to full meals. Inevitably, there's a large shop and a garden centre but all facilities are there and modern, with disabled access well catered for. All in all an excellent NT property which is justifiably popular and well known within an hour or SO's travelling distance, by car. Well worth a visit.

Extremely pleasant visit. The Winter/Riverside walk is very calming and beautiful. A short stop at the Mill where the volunteers were extremely knowledgeable and told many interesting stories about the Mill operation its evolution over time. The abbey itself was very interesting with many well preserved artifacts of the period all supported by very personable volunteers who were happy to tell stories about the Lord Fairhaven and the history of the abbey. A very nice way to spend 4 or 5 hours.
